What this paper is about
Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome to TEACH 203 Te Whāriki in Action: Pedagogies for the first 1000 days. We hope you find this paper interesting and challenging. This paper is online, and will involve a range of content addressing issues around infants and toddlers. It will provide opportunities for students to discuss and reflect on recent placements within infant and toddler settings, and to apply these experiences to academic literature.
How this paper will be taught
This is a 15 point paper. The paper will be taught in-person, and online.
- The in-person component will be taught as two block weeks (10/7/23-13/7/23 and 25/9/23-28/9/23). This paper will have two teaching slots in each block week.
- The remainder of the course will be online. A regular online presence is required from Monday, 18 July 2022 until the paper ends on Friday, 21 October 2022.
University regulations stipulate an expected total student workload for the paper of 150 hours. The paper involves approximately 36 hours of directed online activities (e.g., prerecorded content; tutorial-style activities; discussion boards) across the trimester during online weeks, equivalent to the contact hours of papers taught face-to-face. The remaining hours, accumulated at different times across the whole trimester are to be used for completing readings, preparing for online tasks and assignments, and attending block week courses.
Details of the learning activities for each online week will be provided in the Moodle classroom. Materials will be made available on the Friday prior to each new topic starting in the following week. Activities will include participation in online discussion, links to relevant resources such as video, and scheduled (optional) Zoom sessions. Full details of the assessment requirements, due dates and weightings for these tasks are provided in this paper outline and on the paper's moodle page.
The Moodle site for this paper can be accessed through the following link: http://elearn.waikato.ac.nz/or click on the Moodle button on the university's home page.
